Embracing the Fall Charm of Telluride

Nestled in the heart of the majestic Colorado Rockies, Telluride emerges as a hidden gem, especially during the first week of October when the vibrant fall colors paint the landscape in hues gold. Our recent road trip through the mountain towns and forests of Colorado reached its pinnacle in Telluride, a picturesque haven for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. Join us on a journey through the enchanting town, as we share our experiences, from the cozy accommodations at the Inn at Lost Creek to the breathtaking vistas atop the free Gondola.

A Charming Stay at the Inn at Lost Creek

After an unfortunate experience at one of the most amazing National Forest campsites due to some rather rude and rowdy individuals, we decided to get out of bed, pack up and move to town just before midnight so that we could get some undisturbed and much needed rest.

We called and stopped at a few hotels to check on availability before heading to the Inn at Lost Creek. We weren’t sure what to expect as we weren’t planning to make this a part of our camper trip, but we arrived and were surprised to find they had a room available. This being the fourth location we tried, we happily accepted, even though it was far from what we would consider affordable, especially for a last minute “emergency” stay. Knowing it was a one time thing, we chose to look on the bright side and try to enjoy our time in this gorgeous mountain lodge.

The next morning, we were greeted by a backdrop of golden aspens just outside our window. Opening the balcony doors up to crisp mountain air and breathtaking mountain views set the tone for the day's adventures and made us completely forget the previous evening. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast made by someone else for a change, relaxed, got ready, and hit the town to explore.

Sipping Warmth at Bruno's Coffee

Fueling our exploration, we ventured into the heart of Telluride's main street, where the aroma of freshly brewed coffee led us to Bruno. The quaint cafe proved to be a delightful respite, serving up steaming cups of artisanal coffee. Sipping our drinks, we perused the selection of books in the shop adjoining the cafe and planned the day's itinerary, soaking in the charming ambiance of this local hotspot.

Between the Covers was a treasure trove of niche books on hiking, survival, bird watching, and many more nature inspired genres. It was a testament to Telluride's cultural richness, where even a brief stop for coffee could turn into a literary adventure.

Soaring Heights on the Free Gondola

One of Telluride's unique attractions is its free Gondola, providing not just transportation but an awe-inspiring journey. We boarded the Gondola, ascending to the mountaintop with panoramic views of the town below and the snow-capped peaks beyond. The vastness of the landscape was humbling, making the Gondola ride an experience in itself.

We hopped off at the top, enjoying more of the views, and snapping some pictures. We knew the area was known for mountain biking, but did not know there was a lift served bike park at the top of Mountain Village. Unfortunately for us, it was closed for trail work on this particular day, but its definitely some place we plan on coming back to.

Farmers Market Delights & Main Street's Charms

Telluride's main street beckoned with its charming boutiques and eclectic shops. We wandered through the streets, exploring unique storefronts, art galleries, and artisanal shops. Each establishment added a layer to the town's character, making the stroll a delightful blend of exploration and relaxation.

As our trip concluded, it was the towering mountain views surrounding Telluride that left an indelible mark on our hearts. The blend of vibrant fall colors, cozy accommodations, local flavors, and breathtaking vistas made Telluride a destination we would carry with us long after our journey through the Colorado mountains. In the tapestry of our memories, Telluride emerged as a vivid thread, weaving together the beauty of nature, the warmth of local hospitality, and the charm of a mountain town embraced by majestic peaks.

That’s it for now!
