At the end, we even give 4, 6, and 8 day travel itinerary examples.
But, before we get into it, let’s get one thing straight, Jackson Hole isn’t an actual city that you’ll find on the map, but Jackson, Wyoming is. Most people use the two interchangeably and you can probably get away without ever knowing the difference but if you don’t, you’re guaranteed to stick out as a typical tourist, so let us help with that.
It’s quite simple…
Jackson Hole: refers to the broad valley encompassing approximately 48 miles in length and 8 to 15 miles in width. It is surrounded by majestic mountain ranges, including the Teton Range to the west and the Gros Ventre Range to the east.
Jackson, Wyoming: is a town located within the Jackson Hole valley. It is situated in the southern part of the valley, approximately 12 miles south of Grand Teton National Park and about 60 miles south of Yellowstone National Park.
Okay, so that’s out of the way. Now here’s your guide to Jackson Hole (the valley that is)!

What we can say is that you’re bound to fall in love as soon as you step foot in this valley so one season likely won’t be enough. Before you leave, you’ll be planning your next trip back.
How to get there and where to stay…
We’re a bit bias because, as you know, our travel style is road tripping in our Hawk Four Wheel Camper. We love to drive in to these beautiful locations and find breathtaking camp spots. But, we’ve stayed in town at an AirBnb right in the heart of Jackson. Both were unique experiences and honestly one wasn’t necessarily better than the other.
It largely depends on your starting point and preferences, but here are some common options to consider when planning your trip.
Getting there…
